Northfield Mountain Recreation and Environmental Center

Northfield Mountain is a pumped storage hydroelectric facility owned and operated by FirstLight Power Resources. We are a four-season recreation facility situated along a beautiful sweep of mountainside, offering a wide variety of environmental and recreation programs.

Connecticut River Cruise

While aboard Northfield’s scenic riverboat, guests can take in the picturesque sites and fascinating history of New England’s great river, the Connecticut River.

Turners Falls Fishway

Turners Falls Fishway is open during the spring migration. Underwater viewing windows offer visitors of all ages a chance to see migratory fish during their upriver journey to spawn.

Barton Cove and Munn’s Ferry Campgrounds

Situated along the Connecticut River in Massachusetts, Barton Cove and Munn’s Ferry campgrounds are open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

Shepaug Hydroelectric Station

The environment in the vicinity of the Shepaug Hydroelectric Station, the largest hydroelectric station in Connecticut, provides a unique habitat for wildlife and is an important winter (December through March) feeding site for bald eagles.

Housatonic and Shetucket Rivers

Visit the Housatonic River project and enjoy riverside and lakeside recreation. Take a walk on one of the many interpretive trails or picnic by the water’s edge. In the winter Shepaug station operates an eagle viewing facility. Various dams on the river create three popular lakes: Lake Candlewood, Lake Lillinonah and Lake Zoar.
