Journeyman/woman Electrician – Fort Frances, ON

The Company

Headquartered in Oshawa, Ontario, H2O operates 8 hydroelectric generating stations located in Ontario.  In Ontario H2O Power is the third largest provider of hydroelectric power in the province. H2O is majority-owned by PSP Investments, one of Canada’s largest pension investment managers.

The Position

Reporting to the Western Operations Manager, this individual will be responsible for all aspects of electrical, control, hydraulic and minor mechanical work related to power generation to keep all of H2O’s sites running safely and effectively. This is a unionized position within the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of electrical, control, hydraulic and minor mechanical work related to hydroelectric power generation and associated control, auxiliary, distribution, transformation, and transmission systems including:
    • Responding to power system and other emergencies in accordance with documented safety procedures, sound judgement and good utility practices.



  • A valid Ontario 309A – Construction and Maintenance Electrician certification or equivalent certification.
  • Must be willing to work on systems other than just electrical once provided with the required safety training.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision (self-starter, self-motivated and self-directed as required)
  • A valid class G driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract report.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Minimum of 5 years industrial experience as a Journeyman in an Electrical trade.
  • Hydro Generation experience is considered an asset.
  • Computerized control systems experience is considered an asset.
  • Hydraulics knowledge/experience is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge, understanding & experience with Confined Space Entry is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional verbal/written communication skills with superior attention to detail
  • Be able to work alone with little assistance
  • Willing to learn new things and be teachable
  • Familiarity using Microsoft office programs. (Word, PowerPoint, Office, Excel)


Working conditions/Travel Requirements

  • Will be required to work overtime and respond to “call-in’s” outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends & holidays.
  • Must be willing to respond to emergencies on site within 30 minutes when called in
  • Will be required to work outdoors in various weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Must be willing to travel and work at other company sites within Ontario including overnight trips as required.


Physical requirements

  • Required to stand for extended periods of time, lifting safely within your physical capability and frequent stair climbing, over considerable distances, on a regular basis.
  • As a condition of employment, all new employees must be fully vaccinated and provide satisfactory proof, unless approved for an exemption based on a protected ground in the Ontario Human Rights Code (“the Code”).
