Our development pipeline includes over 2,000 MW of solar, battery and offshore wind projects in various stages of development, and we are developing a portfolio of hybrid hydro, solar and battery projects that combine operational and development assets. We have approximately 180 employees based in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Ontario and Pennsylvania, and our corporate headquarters are located in Burlington, MA.

The Position

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager or Director of Asset Management, the Electrical Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support to daily and long-term operations.  Serves as a project manager/ project lead and carries out assignments associated with electrical engineering in support of H2O’s hydroelectric generating station equipment and facilities.

This role offers remote work flexibility, but will require significant travel to various sites as required.

Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Capex plan maintenance and program delivery:
    • Maintain the H2O Power capex plan
    • Develop detailed project scope and estimate for all projects listed
    • Update the plan in conjunction with field and corporate input
    • Develop project documentation for approvals and execution, including development of specifications and conceptual designs
    • Manage capital projects through their complete cycle
    • Support and provide delivery of engineered designs for limited scope projects
  • Support Dam Safety Programs:
    • Support all discipline specific aspects of the H2O Power Dam Safety program including review of monitoring data, conduct periodic inspections and update remedial plans
    • Participate in periodic reviews by 3rd party independent engineers
  • Maintenance Support:
    • Support maintenance personnel as needed with respect to issues noted during planned and unplanned outages
    • Maintain and review equipment maintenance records to establish performance trends and identify performance issues and develop solutions to those issues
    • Provide electrical designs for limited scope project/modifications
    • Develop, update and modify Standard Operating Procedures relating to system operations and maintenance. Prepare remedial plans for correction of maintenance deficiencies
  • Operations:
    • System Reliability
      • Conduct outage/event analysis and execute follow-up as required
      • Identify equipment performance issues, prepare and direct implementation of corrective measures
      • Maintain IESO reliability reports. Follow up on deficiencies identified
      • Compile data and prepare regulatory reports
    • Monitor critical PPM programs for execution and performance. Provide assistance and guidance to field staff for:
      • Protective relaying maintenance
      • Transformer maintenance
      • MV and HV breaker maintenance
      • Battery system maintenance
      • Transformer oil test program
    • Equipment and tools:
      • Design, implement and maintain desktop operating tools as required
      • In conjunction with IT Section and the Controls Engineer, develop and maintain monitoring tools in SCADA system Support and provide delivery of engineered designs for limited scope projects
  • Engineering Studies:
    • Complete and maintain system studies for all H2O Power facilities, including
      • Short circuit studies
      • Coordination studies for all generators, transformers and lines
      • Arc flash studies
    • Maintain database for all H2O Power protective relay systems settings, AVR settings and turbine control parameters
  • Complies with all Corporate policies and procedures
  • Carries out other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications / Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years’ relevant professional experience in power systems modeling
  • P.Eng designation or a candidate for Licensure with PEO within 1-2 years
  • Working Knowledge of Power Analysis software
  • Background with SCADA and PLC systems is considered an asset
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Excels in both a team environment as well as independently
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to progress/improve processes and functions
  • Understanding of urgency and caution when operating in a power systems environment
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and communication skills
  • Extremely high attention to detail, well organized and strong documentation skills within Office 365
  • Ability to travel to field sites frequently
